Good Rail and Coach Links to Ferries at Stranraer and Liverpool

Ferry passengers travelling to Belfast without a car can choose to travel by rail or coach to either Stranraer or Liverpool.

Scotrail Trains from Glasgow Central Station connect with departures from Stranraer Harbour by Stena Line's High Speed Ship Stena Voyager.

There is also a daily rail service from Newcastle Upon Tyne which connects with the early evening sailing to Belfast.

Early Morning Departure from London Euston Connects with Mid Afternoon HSS to Belfast

Travellers from London can leave Euston at 5.47am on a Virgin Trains service and arrive at Stranraer just before 2.00pm in time for the 2.40pm HSS departure. This journey involves a change of train in Glasgow.

Connections with rail services to Stranraer are available from all areas of the UK and fares are zoned depending on the starting point of each journey.

Wide Choice of Coach Services to Stranraer Harbour

Coach services are also available from all parts of England to Stranraer. Some involve changes en-route but a direct Eurolines service leaves Victoria Coach Station in London at 5.00pm.

This connects with the 4.40am HSS sailing to Belfast.

Scottish Citylink provides coach services to Stranraer Harbour from Glasgow, Edinburgh and other departure points across Scotland.

Once again further details are available on the Stena Line website in the section entitled 'By Coach'.

Train and coach passengers have the option of upgrading to the Stena Plus lounge on board Stena Voyager where they can relax and enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks during the two hour crossing.

The Stena website shows the HSS sails from Stranraer every day at 4.40am, 9.50am, 2.40pm and 7.50pm.

Travellers wishing to sail between Belfast and Liverpool with Norfolk Line can travel to Merseyside by train or coach. Full details of rail services can be found on the National Rail Enquiries website. Details of coach services can be found on the National Express website.

Norfolk Line Passengers Must Arrive at Birkenhead One Hour Before Departure of Belfast Sailings

As the vessels depart from Birkenhead Norfolk Line passengers must transfer from Liverpool City Centre by taxi ensuring they check in for the eight hour sailing at least one hour before departure.

The Norfolk Line website shows there are daylight sailings each day except Monday at 10.30am.

Overnight crossings leave Liverpool at 10.30pm each night except Monday when the ship sails at 10.00pm.

Foot passenger fares on the overnight crossings do not include cabins. These must be reserved and paid for separately.

Rail tickets to Liverpool from across England can be purchased in advance on qjump.

Coach tickets can be purchased on the National Express website.
